The transition from swaddling can be challenging – that's why the Swaddle Up™ Transition Swaddle Bag was developed to make this developmental step easier. It offers the same cozy and secure feeling as swaddling and features removable wings that allow you to gradually let your baby sleep with their arms free – all at their own pace.
Follow these three simple steps for a safe transition:
- One arm at a time: Start by unzipping one wing to gently help your baby adjust to sleeping with their arms free, while still maintaining comfort and security.
- Both arms free: Once your baby is used to the new routine, unzip the second wing to allow more freedom of movement. A short adjustment period is completely normal.
- Complete the swaddle transition: Once your baby is comfortably sleeping with both arms and legs free, transition fully from swaddling to a sleep bag.
When should swaddling be stopped?
If your baby shows one or more of these signs, it's time to transition to sleeping with their arms free. These signs typically appear between 2 and 6 months of age.
If you are unsure, always consult your GP or paediatrician about your baby’s motor development.
The following signs may indicate that it’s time to stop swaddling:
- Begins rolling during awake time
- Pushes up on hands during tummy time
- Diminishing or absent Moro reflex
- Lifts legs and drops them to the side
- Can break free from a traditional swaddle
- Resists being swaddled
